This picture was taken alongside Highway 22 on the North Santiam River between Detroit and Marion Forks, Oregon, in the Willamette National Forest. The photo looks across the North Santiam River canyon to the ridge on the far side. Most of the trees in this middle elevation forest appear to be Douglas fir, but western red cedar and western hemlock will be present, also. The picture shows the transition zone between the rain and snow. Ribbons of fog hang in the canyon bottom, typical of a soggy early winter day on the west side of the Cascades.
