This photo/picture shows bulrushes growing in Cave and Basin Marsh, at Banff, Alberta, Canada.
These bulrush stems were photographed in the Cave and Basin Marsh in Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada. Water flows into this marsh from hot springs on an adjacent hillside. These bulrushes are growing in water which is almost entirely hidden by floating plants.

Bulrushes like this are widespread in the west, especially inland in areas that are hot and sunny in the summer. A marginal plant, they line the edges of thousands of lakes, ponds, and slow-moving streams. They are usually available at nurseries that cater to the garden pond trade, and are widely used in stromwater management, wetland restoration and revegetation projects.

To reach the Cave and Basin area, drive south through downtown Banff, cross the Bow River bridge, and turn right on Cave Avenue. This site is 'Point of Interest Number 2' on this excellent Parks Canada map. Take time to visit the Cave and Basin historic area, and follow the signage down the hill to the marsh. There is also a nice hiking trail around the entire marsh area.
