It's not news that water-lilies make an ideal water garden or garden pond plant. But you are more likely to get optimum results if you plant a type native to your region. They'll be more disease and pest resistant, and more likely to bloom.

This pond in this picture is located along Highway 101 in California redwood country north of Eureka and near the Pacific Ocean. I was there in the fall, after blooming season. This pond should offer some good photo opportunities in the spring when the water lilies are in bloom. I suspect that they are the same yellow pond-lily (Nuphar lutea ssp.) that is common closer to my home turf in Oregon, a few hundred miles north.
