This picture of a contorted trunk of a coast live oak(Quercus agrifolia Nee) was taken on the Hearst Ranch near San Simeon, California. I found this tree in a draw between Highway 1 and the Pacific Ocean, draped in California spanish moss(Ramalina menziesii). The shady gully provided a dark background and sufficient contrast to make an interesting photo.
