This picture was taken on the northwest coast of Vancouver Island near Qualicum Beach, looking across the Strait of Georgia. While vacationing here a few years ago, we were treated to a series of spectacular sunrises. The only filtration used on this photo was a graduated neutral density filter. The shot was made on Fuji Velvia film, which tends to saturate reds. No further enhancement was done.
The sun was still below the horizon when I took this photo. These are low altitude clouds which often yield dramatic but brief sunrises and sunsets. There are 2 photos on this site taken of the same sunrise just a few minutes after the picture above. One is a vertical view and the other is a horizontal.
