This picture was taken on the northwest coast of Vancouver Island near Qualicum Beach, looking across the Strait of Georgia. While vacationing here a few years ago, we were treated to a series of spectacular sunrises. The only filtration used on this photo was a graduated neutral density filter. The shot was made on Fuji Velvia film, which tends to saturate reds. No further enhancement was done.
I placed the sun off-center deliberately. Photos that have the subject placed exactly in the center of the photo are usually less interesting visually than pictures where the subject is not centered. One name for this concept is "The Rule of Thirds."
