This picture of 2766 m tall (9076 ft) Castle Mountain was taken in September, 2003. Castle Mountain is named for its obvious resemblance to the shape of a castle parapet wall. This photo was taken from the viewing platform at Castle Meadow on Canada 1A, the Bow Valley Parkway, in the fall after the foreground shrubs had turned color and lost a lot of their leaves.

One year after the end of World War II, in 1946, Castle Mountain was renamed Mt Eisenhower in honor of the Supreme Allied Commander and future US President, Dwight David Eisenhower. However, the name Castle Mountain is just too apt, and so the mountain's name was changed back to Castle Mountain after 33 years. The tallest peak toward the right of the ridge was named Eisenhower Peak. Visit peakfinder.com for the full story.
