Using a Ladder
Most photographers shoot most of their photos with their cameras at eye level while standing; it's a natural and comfortable thing to do. Eye level is not always the best point of view, though. Furthermore, shooting at a height other than eye level is a good way to set your photos apart from the pack.
Studio photographers commonly make use of ladders, but it's not a natural thing for most landscape and nature photographers. I frequently carry a short folding ladder in the back of my vehicle. The ladder is a handy accessory that allows me to take full advantage of the height of my tripod. Sometimes I need it to enable me to shoot over obstructions. Other times I use it to change my point of view from eye level, and other times I use it to change the perspective of a shot.
