The Lens Trap:

If you have unlimited money and can afford whatever you want, you can skip this page.

The Lens Trap is a time and money wasting hazard that many of us fall into, including myself from time to time. For about 10 years I used a Mamiya 645. It was a great camera and the lenses are surprisingly good. For a long time I yearned for the 500mm f/5.6 lens. This is a very cool looking lens in a very long barrel and with an awesome 4" diameter front optic.

For years I spent time thinking about it, shopping for it at camera shows, following the prices in Shutterbug, and thinking about why I had to have it. I'll bet I spent ten hours dreaming and shopping, maybe more.

Finally, I bought one. It was a very good lens and once I got it - I shot about 3 rolls of film with it in a year and a half. I thought I had to have it, but - as it turned out - I really didn't need it.
