Basics of Good Photo Composition:

"The better you can handle visual design, the better you can communicate information and the expression of feelings through the medium of photography." Freeman Patterson

Good composition is fundamental to creating an attractive photograph.

The photographer needs to decide what to exclude from the photo, what to include in the frame, and where to place that which is included in the frame.

The very useful Kodak website defines composition as: "The pleasing arrangement of the elements within a scene - the main subject, the foreground and background, and the supporting subjects." While the "pleasing " is important, good composition can communicate ideas and provoke emotions.
