Osoberry or indian plum is a NW native plant that is the earliest blooming shrub in the Pacific Northwest. The small purple-black fruits are eaten by birds.
Oso Berry (or Osoberry or Indian Plum) (Osmaronia cerasiformis or Oemlaria cerasiformis) is a native shrub common to lowland woods west of the Cascade Mountains. Each February it is the first shrub to begin to leaf out and flower.

It develops edible but bittersweet olive-sized dark purple fruits. The fruits are usually consumed shortly after they develop by birds. The crushed leaves have a delightful fresh cucumber aroma.
