New Blue Linoleum Kitchen Floor with Red and Yellow Inlaid Border
Linoleum floor coverings have been around for a long time. Linoleum has recently undergone a renaissance as people have rediscovered what a great all-natural flooring it is. The vinyl floor products that replaced linoleum in the last half of the 20th century have fallen completely out of favor for use in homes. Before the development of hard laminates like Formica, linoleum was also a popular material for countertops.

Linoleum is made from linseed oil, wood flour, rosin, limestone and jute. It is generally considered to be a very 'green', eco-friendly product because most of the ingredients are rapidly regrown. Forbo manufactures linoleum under the brand name "Marmoleum." Armstrong uses the brand name "Marmorette".

Because the distinctive marbled patterns and colors run completely through the material, Linoleum floors are longlasting. Linoleum is resilient, making it comfortable to stand on for long periods of time. Because it is waterproof, it was and is very popular in kitchens and bathrooms.

Linoleum is available in both square tiles and in rolls. The roll goods, which were used for this kitchen floor, are the best choice for creating border and inlay patterns when installed by a professional flooring contractor.
