This photo shows a kitchen and nook floor done in 12" x 12" environmentally friendly cork floor tiles. Cork tile makes a quiet, resilient, all-natural floor covering. Cork is a long-lasting material and it offers the advantages of sound absorption and thermal insulation. It also has anti-microbial properties that prevent it from mildewing, and it's waterproof.
Cork is now available in a wide range of colors, and so it lends itself well to creating a patterned floor. In this photo, dark tiles are used as an accent strip or border. Tiles can also be installed in a checkerboard pattern.
Cork is considered to be a very green, renewable, eco-friendly flooring. Cork is the harvested bark of the cork oak, which is mainly grown in Portugal, Spain, and Tunisia. The trees are not harmed by harvesting the cork, and they produce a new crop every nine years.
