This picture shows the base of Mist Falls and the tiny creek that flows from it. Little-known Mist Falls is located 1/4 mile west of Wahkeena Falls. At over 400 feet, Mist Falls is the second highest waterfall in the Columbia River Gorge after 625 foot Multnomah Falls.
Mist Falls is best seen from the freeway. Watch for it just west of Multnomah Falls above the Benson Lake State Park exit off I-84. Mist Falls was the location of a roadhouse called Multnomah Lodge, not to be confused with the later Multnomah Falls Lodge. All that remains of Multnomah Lodge is the chimney.
This photo was taken in mid-spring. The cream colored blossoms just below the base of the waterfall are Western Solomon Plume, (Smilacina racemosa). Barely visible, the pink flowers above the foliage beside the creek are Western Corydalis, (Corydalis scouleri).
