Northwest balsamroot and lupine in bloom on Dalles Mountain Road, a popular wildflower viewing location in the Columbia River Gorge.
Northwest Balsamroot and Lupine Bloom Together Along Dalles Mountain Road.
This photo of Columbia Gorge Broadleaf Lupine (Lupinus latifolia var. thompsonianus) and Northwest Balsamroot (Balsamorhiza deltoidia) was shot on the roadside on Dalles Mountain Road near Columbia Hills State Park, Washington. The Balsamroot and the Lupine bloom overlap and they grow intermixed. Look for them here in mid-April.

This location is one of the prime wildflower viewing areas in the eastern Columbia River Gorge. This park encompasses a vast area, and at this point the public is welcome to wander cross-country pretty much at will. If you go for a hike, make sure that you stay inside park boundaries.
