A Mound of Showy Phlox at the Top of Dalles Mountain Road, Columbia Hills, WA.
This mound of Showy Phlox (Phlox speciosa) was photographed at the crest of Dalles Mountain Road.
Two phloxes are common in and near Columbia Hills State Park. This mound of Showy Phlox (Phlox speciosa) was photographed at the crest of Dalles Mountain Road. In fact, the area around the summit and the radio towers is the best place I've found to see Showy Phlox, Hood's Phlox (Phlox hoodii), and Douglas' Buckwheat (Eriogonum douglasii). Look for the phloxes in April and the Buckwheat in May.
