A Basalt Cliff Forms a Dark Backdrop for Blooming Columbia Desert Parsley.
Photo of the wildflower Columbia desert parsley blooming against a basalt background at Catherine Creek.
This picture shows Columbia Desert Parsley (Lomatium columbianum) at the peak of bloom. Note the variation in bloom color and the two very different leaf forms in this one plant.

Columbia Desert Parsley begins to bloom in late February and is at its peak in late March.

Columbia Desert Parsley is common at low elevations in the eastern Columbia River Gorge. The best places to see this plant are between Bingen and Murdock on the Washington side and between Mosier and The Dalles on the Oregon side.

This photo was taken on Gifford Pinchot National Forest land between Rowland Lake and Catherine Creek on Old State Highway 8 just north of Highway 14.
