The wildflower Sand Clover forms an open ground cover in the uplands at Catherine Creek, Washington.
Sand Clover (Trifolium tridentatum) is a low growing flower that sometimes forms fairly dense patches of cover, as it does here in this photo taken on the sloping upland just across Catherine Creek to the east from the parking lot, and above the road.

When it gets crowded in the parking lot, there are a couple of spots on the east side of the creek where you can park, and you can have large areas virtually to yourself, especially below the road.
