Sculptured puffball, Calvatia sculpta
A Fully opened Amanita Muscaria on the Oregon Coast
Amanita Muscaria is a very common mushroom in the Pacific Northwest, especially on the coast.  This mushroom was growing in a shorepine forest near Gold Beach.

Also known as fly agaric, a couple of centuries ago this mushroom was supposedly chopped up, mixed with milk, and used to kill house flies.

I think the amanita is a very striking and beautiful mushroom, in spite of its toxic and psychoactive properties.
