This picture was taken near the pleasant little town of Qualicum Beach on the east side of Vancouver Island early one fall morning. This kelp had accumulated along the high tide line. Cobble beaches like this are common all around Puget Sound and the inland coastal waters of British Columbia. There is generally a great variety of rock types because on most beaches the cobble has been deposited by receding glaciers.
