This photo was taken in the late spring from the trail up Cascade Head. At the foot of the hill is the Salmon River Estuary, a popular kayaking location. Over the large hill in the middle distance is Lincoln City, Oregon. The point on the horizon is at Depoe Bay.
In the spring, this area is only accessible via the Nature Conservancy access trail from the county boat launch on the estuary. Your reward for the hike is possibly the most stunning vista on the Oregon Coast.
During the late summer and fall, an access road is open that goes in to the top of the trail, making access easier, but by then the grass is brown and knocked down, and the wildflowers (not shown here) are gone.
Since this is a Nature Conservancy property and it hosts a herd of elk, please leave your pets at home.
