Gnarled snags on the top of Lookout Mountain show the devastating effects of the severe mountaintop weather.
On this evening on the summit of Lookout Mountain I photographed the silver snags on the summit while I kept one eye on an approaching thunderstorm in the background. A high percentage of the trees on south side of the summit ridge have been killed by severe weather. Click on any of the photos below and you'll see why.

Lookout Mountain is the high point on a long ridge just east of the summit of Mt Hood. It lies eight miles almost due east of the summit of Mt. Hood. Lookout Mtn offers spectacular photo opportunities of Hood. It also offers spectacular 360 degree views of north central Oregon and southern Washington.
