Sub-alpine Forest at the Summit of Larch Mountain Oregon.
This picture was taken from Sherrard Point, the summit of 4056 foot high Larch Mountain. Fog from the prior night's rain was rising in the early morning sun on a typical damp late fall day.

The forest here at the 4000 foot altitude is a mixture of old growth and second growth and it contains a mixture of tree species. The dead snags in the photo provide valuable wildlife habitat.

The summit picnic area of Larch Mountain is the upper terminus of the Mt Hood National Forest's Larch Mountain Trail #441 (map). The trail begins at Multnomah Falls and interconnects with several other Columbia River Gorge trails.
